FWICE Urges OTT Platforms To Boycott Turkish Shows; Here's Why

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has called for boycott on Turkish shows on Indian streaming platforms. It has urged OTT platforms, including Netflix, Prime Video and JioHotstar, to boycott Turkish shows after the country's support to Pakistan amid the rising tensions and conflicts with India, as per a report in PTI.

The organisation released a statement, on Thursday, where it stated that it 바카라�firmly for the interest of the nation and industry바카라�.

The FWICE said, "We are writing to express our serious concern and strong objection regarding the continued streaming and promotion of Turkish shows on various Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms operating in India.

As is well known, Turkey has consistently extended diplomatic and political support to Pakistan on matters that are detrimental to India바카라�s sovereignty and national interest, including on sensitive issues such as Kashmir".

It further said it is not in India's best interest to allow the content of a country that does not support its territorial integrity to be consumed widely by Indian audiences.

The FWICE also urged the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting to take necessary action to boycott or restrict the streaming of Turkish television shows and films on Indian OTT platforms.

바카라�Such a step will not only send a strong message globally but also encourage the promotion of Indian content and support the large workforce of our domestic entertainment industry. We hope the Ministry will take cognizance of this matter with the seriousness it deserves and initiate appropriate steps in the national interest,바카라� it said.

For the unversed, Turkish dramas such as As the Crow Flies, Another Self, Binbir Gece, and Yabani, among others became popular in India in the early 2000s.

Why FWICE called for boycott of Turkish shows

Amid the tensions following India's counter-terror operation against Pakistan, Turkey condemned India's military strikes on terror camps in Pakistan. Turkish President Erdogan has been showing his unwavering support for Pakistan.

Following its support to Pakistan, there have also been boycott calls for Turkish goods and tourism.

Recently, the FWICE also appealed to Indian film producers, to refrain from choosing Turkey as a shooting location.
