RRR Gets Honorary Mention From Oscars' Academy In Stunt Design Category Announcement

Alongside RRR, The Academy also included Mission Impossible and Everything Everywhere All at Once in the 'Stunt Design Category' announcement poster.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences introduced a new category, Best Stunt Design, which will honour action choreography in filmmaking. Director SS Rajamouli's RRR, has received a special mention in the category, alongside Mission Impossible and Everything Everywhere All at Once.

On Thursday, The Academy revealed that it will officially recognise the art of stunt work with a new category at the Oscars, which is 'Best Stunt Design'. It will make its debut at the 100th Academy Awards, which will be held in 2028 for films released in 2027.

Announcing the new category, The Academy wrote on Instagram, "Stunts have always been part of the magic of movies. Now, they바카라™re part of the Oscars. The Academy has created a new annual award for Achievement in Stunt Design바카라”beginning with the 100th Oscars in 2028, honouring films released in 2027바카라¯.

The announcement poster features collage of three films - Michelle Yeoh바카라™s Everything Everywhere All at Once, Ram Charan- Jr NTR바카라™s RRR, and Tom Cruise바카라™s Mission Impossible - with 'Stunt Design Oscar바카라™ written in bold on it.

Rajamouli, reacting to the post, wrote, "At last!! After a 100 year wait !!! Ecstatic for the new Oscars stunt design category for the films releasing in 2027! Huge thanks to David Leitch, Chris O바카라™Hara, and the stunt community for making this historic recognition possible, and to @TheAcademy , CEO Bill Kramer, and President Janet Yang for honoring the power of stunt work. In 2023, RRR made history by becoming the first-ever Indian film song to win an Oscar in the Best Song category for Naatu Naatu. The song also won the Golden Globes and Critics' Choice Award in the Best Original Song category.

The film received praise worldwide. Hollywood icons including Russo Brothers, James Gunn, Danny DeVito, Edgar Wright, and Scott Derrickson, raved the magnum opus.
