Filmmaker Vetri Maaran recently approached the Madras High Court to challenge the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for denial of a censor certificate for his upcoming Tamil movie, Manushi, which is directed by N Gopi Nainar. The case was heard by the court and it questioned how the censor board could deny certification to Andrea Jeremiah starrer, without specifying the objectionable scenes, visuals, dialogues, music or other content that바카라™s to be edited, reported The Hindu.

The report states that Justice N Anand Venkatesh stated that unless the board points out the portions, the producer wouldn바카라™t know which parts of the film need to be edited or tweaked.

The judge said, "Making a movie is a part of the right to speech and expression. As such, the filmmakers are already suffering from a lot of difficulties. You cannot deny certification for an entire movie without specifying the objectionable portions and expect a filmmaker to shoot the entire movie afresh."

The CBFC has been ordered to provide a list of objectionable parts or watch the film with Vetri Maaran and point out the scenes to him and it should be done by June 16, as per the court.

The judge was reportedly told that CBFC's examining committee and the screening committee had withheld certification of the film for five reasons. The board reportedly stated that Manushi went against the integrity of the State, had contemptuous scenes, defamed government policies, portrayed stereotypes leading to the north-south divide and had scenes against the country바카라™s interest.

The judge has asked CBFC to respond by June 11 over these claims, stating, "These conclusions are not subjective but based on objective facts, which are discernible from various scenes in the movie. Therefore, if at all the petitioner is required to edit those portions, he must be informed about the specific portions that required such editing."
