₹100 Crore Rafting Base Station To Boost Rishikesh Tourism

The central government has approved the construction of a state-of-the-art rafting base station in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, with an allocated budget of ₹100 crore. Tourists and locals alike have raised concerns about the lack of basic facilities, including toilets, changing rooms, and safety measures. Additionally, traffic congestion along the Rishikesh-Tapovan-Shivpuri corridor adds to the difficulties.

The new rafting base station aims to address these issues by creating a centralized hub with essential amenities, including modern toilets, changing rooms, and roadside eateries. The project also includes plans to introduce a standardized booking system to enhance the convenience of rafting enthusiasts.

To tackle congestion, alternative routes will be developed to ease traffic in the Tapovan area. Safety and efficiency will be prioritized through the implementation of an ITC-based monitoring system. Furthermore, a dedicated waste management system will be established to ensure environmental sustainability and protect the region's fragile ecosystem.

This ambitious project is expected to create approximately 1,500 jobs, offering a significant economic boost to the region. The Uttarakhand state government will provide land and oversee the implementation of the project, while the Union Ministry of Tourism will monitor its progress.

According to the official statement, 66% of the sanctioned funds have already been released to the states. The Centre has set a two-year deadline for the completion of development work under this scheme, underscoring its commitment to promoting tourism and infrastructure development in the country.
