Battle between AAP and BJP is tense in the Muslim dominated seats where the saffron party is leading in the Jat dominated and Purvanchal seats.
Results for the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 have been nothing short of surprises. In line with predictions by most of the exit polls, the BJP is racing ahead with a major lead in the capital while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is struggling to catch up.
Meanwhile, the influential sections in the national territory, including those of Muslim and Jaat voters and the Purvanchal dominated seats have also shown surprising trends. These sections form the core of the Delhi assembly elections and impact a major chunk of the 70-seat assembly.
How did these sections vote in 2025 Delhi Assembly elections? What were the pre-poll promises and what went wrong? Here are the details.
Muslim Dominated Seats
In the Delhi assembly polls, Muslim-majority constituencies constitute around 30 per cent of the total seats and play a crucial role in determining the overall outcome. In the previous assembly elections, i.e. in 2015 and 2020, AAP swept these seats snatching a majority of them from the Congress and some from the BJP.
Some of the key Muslim-dominated seats are Okhla, Mustafabad, Wazipur, Kasturba Nagar and Seelam Pur.
Till now, data showed a mixed battle between the AAP and BJP in these seats. AAP is leading in Okhla and Seelam Pur whereas BJP is leading in Mustafabad, Wazipur and Kasturba Nagar.
The Jat Influence
Delhi has 10 seats which has a major chunk of Jat voter population. These seats are Mehrauli, Najafgarh, Bijwasan, Palam, Matiala, Vikaspuri, Nangloi, Nerela, Mundka and Rithala.
All the three major parties had pitched their tactics before the elections to attract the Jat community.
Before the polls, AAP Supremo Arvind Kejriwal had spoken out for the first time about the reservations for Jats. He said that the Jats of Delhi are not included in the OBC list of the Central Government while their community in Rajasthan is in the OBC list of the Center. Just before the elections, not only AAP but also the BJP and Congress are concerned about the rights of the Jat community. Like other political parties, the way the Aam Aadmi Party has put forth its point for the Jats for the first time regarding the caste equation is being interpreted in many ways.
But what turned out to be a surprise is the victory of the saffron party in the Jat dominated seats with AAP trailing.
The earlier trend showed that Jats voted for the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections and for the AAP in the assembly elections, indicating that the community wasn바카라™t necessarily opposed to either party. In this election, what likely worked in the BJP's favor was its decision to field a strong Jat leader, Parvesh Varma, against the prominent AAP leader, Arvind Kejriwal. This sent a clear message to the community about their importance to the party. It also boosts their confidence, suggesting that their demands, including for reservation, could be addressed if the BJP wins back power in Delhi.
Delhi바카라™s Purvanchal Connection
All the parties played their pre-polls gambits to voo voters in the Purvanchal dominated seats. Out of Delhi's 70 assembly seats, Purvanchali voters are considered to have a significant influence on 14 seats. Voters from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand make up a strong vote share in these constituencies.
Some of the major seats are Dwarka, Laxmi Nagar, Karawal Nagar, Malviya Nagar, Patparganj, Rajinder Nagar, Rohtas Nagar, Sangam Vihar, Shalimar Bagh and Vikas Puri. Data showed that BJP was leading in all these seats with AAP trailing in the second position
