India Sees Rise In Covid-19 Cases; Kerala Worst Affected

India sees a rise in COVID-19 cases with 5,862 active infections as of June 6, 2025. Kerala, Gujarat, and Delhi are most affected. Health officials urge caution.

India is seeing a gradual rise in COVID-19 cases, with nearly every state, except Arunachal Pradesh, reporting active infections. As of 8 am on June 6, there are 5,862 active cases nationwide, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. In the past 24 hours, there have been four new fatalities, compared to seven the day before.

Kerala remains the most affected state, reporting 192 new cases, raising its active caseload to 1,679. Additionally, two deaths related to COVID-19 were recorded in the state on June 5.

Gujarat follows closely behind, reporting 107 new cases, with an active caseload of 615. Delhi has seen 30 new cases, and although the national capital has had seven deaths since January 1, 2025, the worrying trend is that states like Delhi, Maharashtra, and Gujarat now have more than 500 active cases.

Since January this year, 55 deaths have been reported in the country. There were a total of 257 active patients in the country on May 22.

On the global stage, the WHO has noted an increase in COVID-19 test positivity rates, now at 11% across 73 countries. This uptick mirrors the highs seen in July 2024, driven by new variants like NB.1.8.1, especially impacting regions like Eastern Mediterranean, South-East Asia, and the Western Pacific.

The health authorities in India have recommended revisiting basic precautions바카라”such as wearing masks in crowded spaces, practicing good hand hygiene, and staying home when symptomatic. Hospitals and healthcare facilities have been instructed to ensure preparedness, especially for patients with pre-existing health conditions.
