Following the NDP's defeat in the 2025 federal elections in Canada, Jagmeet Singh steps down as party leader and he congratulates Mark Carneys Liberals upon their victory.
Jagmeet Singh, New Democratic Party leader (NDP), announced on Tuesday that he will step down as party leader after conceding defeat in the Burnaby Central constituency in British Columbia. His announcement comes after the NDP's loss in the 2025 federal elections in Canada.
Singh, who was aiming for his third win, lost his seat to Liberal Candidate Wade Chang. CBC poll data showed him trailing by more than 10,000 votes with only 27% of the votes, while Wade Chang received more than 40%.
His party also saw a major decline in the 2025 elections. The NDP contested for 343 seats, but secured just 8. Due to the party failing to secure the minimum of 12 seats, NDP also lost its national status.
Jagmeet Singh, was also a former coalition partner of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. With Singh바카라s help, Trudeau held his minority Liberal government in power for more than two years.
The former NDP leader congratulated incumbent Prime Minister Mark Carney, as the Liberals clinched their fourth term as the ruling party.

He also took to social media platform X to share a personal anecdote.

Meanwhile, Mark Carney's Liberals are leading and will proceed to form a minority government. Around 28 million Canadians cast their ballots on Monday.
