Days after a major military standoff with India following the April 22 Pahalgam Terror Attack, Pakistan Army chief General Asim Munir has been reportedly promoted to the position of Field Marshal, the highest military rank in the country.

Citing the statement issued by the Pakistan Prime Minister's office, reports said that the Union Cabinet of the country on Tuesday approved the proposal after a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Local media reports are saying that the decision has been taken based on his "exemplary role" in the recent conflict with India. Pakistan has been claiming victory in the recent conflict, India has busted its lies with evidence at various forums.

Indo-Pak Tensions

The whole nation was shaken on April 22, 2025 when suspected terrorists affiliated with Pakistan-based terror outfits Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) opened fire on a group of tourists in Jammu and Kashmir's Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam.

The attack, which is considered to be the deadliest in the valley since the 2019 Pulwama strike, claimed 26 lives of which 25 were tourists including a Nepali citizen and the other person was a local Kashmiri pony operator.

Following this attack, India and Pakistan officially downgraded their ties, triggering a tit-for-tat visa cancellation, suspension of bilateral agreements and more. In the aftermath of the attack, several demolitions were carried out across Jammu and Kashmir targeting suspected active militants.

14 days after the attack and a series of demolitions, India launched its response - Operation Sindoor. Pakistani military locations, alongside terrorist infrastructure, suffered heavy damage in precision strikes and the subsequent aerial raids carried out by India under Operation Sindoor in response to the Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 civilian lives on April 22.

After four-long days of surviving a gripping fear of war stemming from the constant armed escalations at the border which originated from the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, India on May 10 found a much-needed relief after the announcement of an immediate ceasefire. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that New Delhi has agreed to the truce.
