500,000 Migrants To Face Deportation After US Top Court Allows Trump To Revoke Legal Status | All You Need To Know

The US Supreme Court on Friday allowed the Trump administration to revoke the legal status of over 500,000 migrants living in the US. Meanwhile, the court did not explain its reasoning in a brief order, as is common in emergency agendas. Two justices dissented publicly.

During the ruling, the justices lifted a lower court order that had upheld humanitarian parole protections for more than 500,000 migrants from four countries 바카라� Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela 바카라� after the court allowed the administration to revoke temporary legal status from about 350,000 Venezuelan migrants in another case, the Associated Press reported.

Trump's Immigration Crackdown

The move by the top court puts at risk of deportation nearly 532,000 immigrants who came to the US under the 바카라�parole바카라� programme launched by former US President Joe Biden.

Under the parole program, 30,000 immigrants from four countries were allowed to enter the United States on human-rights grounds.

However, US President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown has sought to eliminate legal protections, and the case reached the Supreme Court earlier this month. The Trump administration has asked the top court to lift a court order preventing it from eliminating those protections.

The court stayed an order by US District Judge Indira Talwani that blocked Trump's move to end immigration "parole" for foreign nationals. The emergency order was not signed and no reasoning was given in it.

Dire Consequences

According to the document, two of the court's three liberal judges, Ketanji Brown Jackson and Sonia Sotomayor, expressed their dissent with the top court's decision and warned of "devastating consequences" of "affecting the lives and livelihoods of nearly half a million non-citizens while legal claims remain pending".

Migrants under the Biden-era program 바카라�now face two intolerable choices. On the one hand, they can choose to leave the United States and, thereby, face 바카라�dangers in their countries of origin바카라�, experience devastating 바카라�family separations바카라�, and potentially lose any chance of redress based on their claims, he said.

Lower courts that blocked Trump's moves argued that the administration was acting based on a flawed interpretation of immigration law.

On May 19, the Supreme Court allowed Trump to end the temporary protective status granted to about 350,000 Venezuelans living in the United States under the Biden administration. Trump used an obscure wartime law to deport hundreds of alleged Venezuelan gang members to prisons in El Salvador.
