United States President Donald Trump on Friday claimed he stopped India and Pakistan from fighting, saying his administration won't trade with countries at war. Trump repeated this claim, stating he prevented a potential nuclear war between the two nations through diplomacy. India, however, maintains that the conflict ended due to direct talks between military operations directors of both countries, not trade discussions.

Trump said, 'We stopped India and Pakistan from fighting. I believe that could have turned out into a nuclear disaster.'
During a press conference in the Oval Office, Trump said, "We stopped India and Pakistan from fighting. I believe that could have turned out into a nuclear disaster," as quoted by AFP.
What Did Trump Say?
Trump added that he wants to thank the "leaders of India, the leaders of Pakistan, and I want to thank my people also." We talked trade, and we said, "We can't trade with people that are shooting at each other and potentially using nuclear weapons."
Trump praised the leaders of India and Pakistan as "great leaders" who understood his concerns and agreed to stop fighting, saying, "They understood, and they agreed, and that all stopped."
"We are stopping others from fighting also, because ultimately, we can fight better than anybody. We have the greatest military in the world. We have the greatest leaders in the world," Trump added.
Trump Taking Credit?
Almost two weeks after the deadly April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that claimed 26 civilian lives, India initiated Operation Sindoor, aimed at dismantling terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
On May 10, India and Pakistan reached an understanding to end the conflict after four days of intrusion, cross-border drone and missile strikes.
Reports suggest that the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan had agreed to cease all firing and military actions on land, air and sea with immediate effect. An official said there was no third party involved in this.
Trump has repeatedly claimed to have helped ease tensions between India and Pakistan and told the nuclear-armed South Asian neighbours that the US would do more business with them if they stopped fighting.
