A new petition has been filed in the Madras High Court, asking the court to order a police investigation into claims made by Tamil Nadu BJP leader K. Annamalai regarding the Anna University sexual assault case. The move comes even after the man who committed the crime was convicted and sentenced to life in prison, keeping a key political mystery at the center of the case.

The case revolves around a question that has haunted the investigation: who is "sir"?

The controversy began during the horrifying attack on a woman engineering student in December 2024. The victim stated that her attacker, Gnanasekar, threatened her by pretending to make a phone call. She claimed he spoke to a superior on the other end, referring to him as "sir," and used this apparent connection to intimidate and assault her.

However, the police investigation concluded that Gnanasekar, a roadside biryani vendor, acted alone. They reported that he had only pretended to make the call and that his phone was on flight mode at the time.

This conclusion was publicly challenged by BJP leader K. Annamalai. Throughout the case, he repeatedly claimed that he was in possession of the attacker바카라™s phone records and that there was "more to the crime than what meets the eye," suggesting a cover-up and the involvement of other powerful people.

Despite a swift trial that saw Gnanasekar convicted in May 2025 and sentenced to life in prison in early June, Mr. Annamalai continued to stand by his claims.

Now, a new legal petition, filed by advocate M.L. Ravi, argues that the police cannot ignore these public statements. The petitioner points out that if the BJP leader truly has evidence of a wider conspiracy, he should have been questioned as part of the investigation. The petition asks the court to direct the police to file a First Information Report (FIR) based on a complaint lodged on May 31 and finally question Mr. Annamalai about the secret records he claims to have.

The goal of the petition is clear: to force an official inquiry to determine if the mysterious "sir" actually exists or if the police's initial conclusion that the attacker acted alone was correct. The case, which exposed serious security lapses at the university and led to a life sentence for a repeat offender, now faces a new chapter focused on uncovering the full truth.
