The Air India flight that was headed to London from Ahmedabad, which crashed on Thursday, resulting in the death of 270 passengers, was an unusual sight for the residents of Laxmi Nagar Society. There was a screeching sound that drove residents out of their houses, and what they came across was a flight struggling to take off, closer to the houses from the roofs than the routine planes that cross this area.

Residents were alarmed by this and, within a couple of minutes, as it was out of sight, they heard a loud blast and flames rising. The residents of Laxmi Nagar Society have never come across scenes like this, and they knew from the unusual sound only that something was wrong, since their schedules and even of routine habits are governed by the fight schedule.

From the roofs of some houses, one can find the tarmac runway, a long strip that is separated from the place by large walls, and watch planes glide through the air during takeoff or taxi down.

Local residents said that the plane had barely flown over one kilometre when the burning wreckage fell on the mess of medical students. Doctors said that four students were killed while several others were injured in the crash.

Some residents in areas closer to the crash site said that they chased a half-burnt plane before it got reduced to debris at the medical hostel.

바카라We have been living here for several years. Our life is synonymous with expansion of the airport, the flights running overhead. So, I knew from the screeching sound that something was wrong and it was not a usual thing, a usual flight sound,바카라 said 42-year-old Manhar Bhai, resident of Laxmi Nagar Society. 바카라The sound of the aeroplane was different from the routine flights. I was woken up from sleep and rushed out watching the plane before it blew up over one kilometre away,바카라 said Manohar.

바카라I understood that there was something wrong, and a few minutes later, I could watch the flames rise up. I rushed to the place, but it had been closed to people. It was too tragic,바카라 he added.

Praveen Bhai, an auto driver, said that the people in the Laxmi Nagar Society neighbourhood sleep on top of their roofs and, 바카라we know the sound of the planes like a mother knows her child, and the sound was different from the usual hum of Flights.바카라

Officials have said that two black boxes of the aeroplane, a Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR), will help them unravel the details about the crew's distress call.

Local residents of the area said that they have ever come across a flight accident like this before, while hundreds of people visit the crash site every day, but get turned back by the police.

Screams of men dying in burning plane, say eyewitnesses

He heard screams of people as the burning Air India plane flew overhead. The plane rammed into the hostel mess, and the view around the crash site became all dark for the fifty-four-year-old, Pankaj Barote. As soon as he heard the loud blast sound and the noise ensued, he ran out of his shop and took cover under a tree.

바카라Darkness filled before my eyes. It was all smoke and flames that rose from the burning plane. I heard people scream from inside the plane,바카라 said Pankaj, seated on a stool outside his optical shop, where a set of spectacles remained arranged inside the glass case beside the counter. 바카라It was our good luck that the plane didn't fall on our house; otherwise, we all would have been dead,바카라 said Pankaj.

On the third day of the crash, the site at Meghaninagar remains teemed with curious onlookers who have run-ins with police, preventing the entry of the general public and the media to the site. At the place, the debris of the hostel mess and the plane remain in what was a throbbing place for the medical students.

People who live around the site in small, open-roofed houses recalled narrow survival and helping out wheeling the bodies to the hospital. When the blast occurred and the plane had crashed, the place was full of bodies, which remained barely recognisable, all charred remains of the people who were headed for London.

바카라I heard loud sounds as I was sitting outside my shop. There was nothing visible. The site before me was that of a building all aflame, and no one was able to go there for a while. It was only after the clouds of smoke were no longer visible that people went there. When the crash happened, it appeared to me that it was like a missile blast, 바카라said Pankaj.

Devi Singh, 54, who ran a food stall near the crash site, thanked his luck that he survived. 바카라It was a narrow escape for me as if I got retrieved from the jaws of death,바카라 he said.  바카라I shouted at another stall owner, asking him to run when a burning plane approached us,바카라 he said.

The stall with the breakfast of local snacks had been spread out as Devi ran for cover. 바카라It was after one hour that I reached my home, and my wife felt relieved on seeing me safely return home,바카라 said Deven.
