After the sale of a house to a Muslim doctor, protests erupted at a society in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad. As per reports, the protest, led by the "Hindu housing community" occurred on Thursday as protestors and home owners chanted "makaan waapas lo".
As reported by news agency PTI, the incident occurred at TDI City Scoeity in Moradabad after the sale of a house by Dr Ashok Bajaj.
The news agency added that Dr Bajab sold the house to Dr Ikra Chaduhary, resulting in backlash from the remaining homeowners about the "disturbance in demographic structure of the society."
Residents of the Moradabad society staged a protest at the colony gate holding banners which said - "Dr Ashok Bajaj Apna Makan Wapas lo" (take your house back).
The Hindu community in the society has alleged that Dr Bajaj did not inform anyone about the sale and the transaction has "violated social harmony" in the society.
"This is a Hindu society, where over 400 Hindu families live. We don't want anyone from the other communities to reside here," a protestor was protester as saying by news agency PTI.
Another resident added that the sale and joining of a Muslim family will "disturb the demographic structure of the society and unwanted changes might occur if other communities start to settle there and Hindus start to leave".
As per District Magistrate Anuj Kumar Singh, a complaint has been filed by the society members regarding the sale.
