Bye Bye Big Boss

Kamal Haasan바카라�s party suffered an inglorious defeat, after having touted itself as the future alternative and the actor as the future chief minister. And then, Haasan바카라�s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) started imploding바카라�so much so that actress Kasturi asked the obvious. 바카라�Is this a political party or the Bigg Boss house?바카라� She was spot on after a spate of desertions from MNM reduced it to the status of the famed TV show that Haasan hosted till a few months ago. The 바카라�deserters바카라� include party vice president R. Mahendran, a well-heeled businessman from Coimbatore, who had bankrolled the party바카라�s Lok Sabha campaign. He walked away after shooting off a visceral letter accusing Haasan of behaving like a dictator and depending on a new election consultant and ignoring those who had sailed with him since 2018. Haasan바카라�s response was to call Mahendran a traitor.

Even before he could shake off the embarrassment of that spat two more high-profile candidates바카라�former IAS officer Santosh Babu and green activist Padma Priya who had fought the assembly elections and had polled more than 30,000 votes in their respective seats바카라�resigned. Both gave personal reasons for their decision, but party insiders admitted that it only reflected a growing sense of despondency among the top functionaries. 바카라�Kamal made impulsive decisions appointing Santosh Babu as HQ secretary on the day he joined the party. Similarly, Padma Priya, who had grabbed eyeballs through one Facebook video on the impact of a port project outside Chennai, was made the head of the party바카라�s environmental wing and given an assembly ticket. Both have now snubbed our leader,바카라� rues a top functionary.

MNM sources say the party has not defined its ideology or its role in the state바카라�s polity other than presenting itself as an electoral alternative to the DMK and AIADMK. 바카라�It is not present in the rural areas, it skipped the civic elections and operates like a corporate entity and chose to contest only in 144 seats, most of them urban. At least if Kamal had won from Coimbatore the party could have flaunted that as a medal of voter recognition,바카라� points out a defeated candidate.

A top businessman바카라�among the first to join MNM바카라�says Haasan had not graduated from being a film star. 바카라�You need special human relations skills to emerge as a leader.바카라� The functionaries, who are still with him, have presented feedback on what went wrong and what needs to be corrected바카라�in the hope that Haasan would listen. Will he?
