We are not quite far away from getting our champion for the World Test Championship 2023-25 with Australia and South Africa set to go head to head in the final.
The World Test Championship Final starts Wednesday, June 11 at the Lord's in London.
As the title clash approaches, here are five things you should be aware of ahead of the Australia vs South Africa, WTC 2025 final.
Australia currently hold the much coveted Test mace after they had beaten India in the final of the 2021-2023 cycle. Their team is exactly the same as it was during their triumph in last WTC final with only David Warner hanging up his his boots. They will once again enter the final as favourites.
This is the first time that India are not in the final of the WTC. They made it to the final of both the previous cycles only to fail at the last hurdle, first by New Zealand and then by Australia.
South Africa have reached their first WTC final but the Temba Bavuma-led will have to play their best game to beat defending champions.
South Africa are once again in an ICC knockout fixture and once again it will be closely followed by many who have supported the Proteas through their several heartbreaks. Most recently they lost the semifinals of 2025 Champions Trophy and 2023 Cricket World Cup. They also lost the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup. These are just a few and their loss of knockout fixtures in ICC tournaments goes long back.
A win will help them seal their first ICC title since 1998.
For the first time, WTC final will be played at The Lord's, one of the most iconic cricket grounds in the world with an unmatched legacy of hosting the most important events in the history of the game. The conditions at the ground are expected to pose a severe challenge to batters with the bowling line-up of both teams boasting some of the best pacers in the Test world.
Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc might be the best pace attack in the world but take the South African pace battery lightly at your own peril. Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen and Lungi Ngidi have the ability to make the best batters in the world dance on their tunes.
Whichever team's batters are able to hold ground against their opposition pacers, will win the WTC 2025 final.
