Former Indian cricket team captain Sunil Gavaskar has come down heavily on Congress leader Shama Mohamed after the latter made controversial comments about current captain Rohit Sharma.
Gavaskar has lambasted the Congress politician for her comments and spoke as to how another fellow Mumbai-born cricketer, Sarfaraz Khan, was criticized for being overweight despite be able to perform during important situation.
바카라œI have always said, if you want only slim guys, then you should go to a modelling competition and pick all the models. It바카라™s not about that," said Gavaskar on India Today.
바카라œIt바카라™s about how well you can play cricket. We talked about Sarfaraz Khan바카라”he was vilified for a long time because he was on the heavier side. But if he scores 150 for India in a Test match and follows it up with another two or three fifty-plus scores, then what바카라™s the issue?" he added.
The veteran cricketer turned commentator said that the mental aspect often matters and the ability to score runs for your team.
바카라œI don바카라™t think size has anything to do with it. It바카라™s your mental strength바카라”whether you can last the distance바카라”that바카라™s the most important thing. Bat well, bat for long, and score runs," said the legendary opening batter.
Since the comment, Shama has apologized for her post and has acknowledged that they were made out of line with the party high-command asking her to delete the post from X.
In her now-deleted post, Shama tweeted that Rohit is 'fat for a sportsman'. 바카라œNeed to lose weight! And of course, the most unimpressive Captain India has ever had!"
Rohit will be leading Team India out for the all-important semi-final against Australia in the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai on Tuesday.
