Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) joined a list of long-awaited champions in 2025 after ending an 18-year wait for an Indian Premier League (IPL) title with a six-run win against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Tuesday, 3 June, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After years of heartbreak and near misses, Virat Kohli and Co. finally lifted that elusive IPL trophy for the first time this year.

It was a moment of vindication for Kohli, who, after 267 matches and three previous final losses, got his hands on the IPL trophy amid a jubilant crowd and teammates. Kohli was instrumental in RCB putting up a 190-run total, scoring 43 off 35 balls.

Among the celebration and congratulations, a social media user pointed out the number of trophy droughts that ended in 2025 across cricket and football, adding RCB to the list, and hoping that Indian Super League (ISL) side Kerala Blasters can also repeat the trick this year.

Let바카라™s have a look at the broader pattern of teams and athletes ending long-standing trophy droughts in 2025:

In football, Newcastle United ended a 70-year wait for a trophy by lifting the Carabao Cup (EFL Cup), defeating Liverpool 2-1, with childhood Magpie supporter Dan Burn scoring the first goal and Alexander Isak adding the second.

Crystal Palace, one of England바카라™s oldest teams, won their first-ever major title in 120 years by lifting the FA Cup in dramatic fashion against Manchester City. Over in Italy, Bologna ended their 51-year title drought by defeating AC Milan in the Coppa Italia, courtesy of a second-half goal from Dan Ndoye.

English striker Harry Kane, often called the best player without a trophy, shed that tag by finally getting his hands on silverware, winning the Bundesliga 2024-25 title with Bayern Munich. In continental football, PSG won their first-ever UEFA Champions League title under manager Luis Enrique, decimating Inter Milan 5-0 in the final.
