Flamengo started their FIFA Club World Cup 2025 campaign with a 2-0 victory over Esperance Sportive de Tunis at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 17 June. The Scarlet and Black were by far the better side for most of the match, getting a well-deserved lead through Giorgian de Arrascaeta in the 17th minute. Luiz Araujo doubled the lead in the 70th minute with a terrific left-footed strike, following a first-time assist from Jorginho. However, ES Tunis threatened to equalise in the final stage of the game through Youcef Belaili, but the gulf in class was too much for the Tunisian side to overcome.
