Palmeiras will kick off their FIFA Club World Cup 2025 action with a Group A fixture against FC Porto at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday, 15 June. The South American giants will enter the contest after winning the Copa Libertadores 2021. However, both sides failed to win their respective leagues this season, with Palmeiras finishing second and Porto finishing third.
Palmeiras have been dominant in the Brasileiro Serie A, and have won back-to-back Copa Libertadores titles under coach Abel Ferreira. However, after finishing as runners-up in the league behind Botafogo, they will look to reestablish themselves as the continent바카라™s elite team.
They are heavy favourites to progress through from Group A in the expanded Club World Cup, having won five out of their five games in the 2025 Libertadores campaign.
They have also been dominant in the Campeonato Brasileiro, notching eight straight wins with seven clean sheets, before consecutive losses, including a costly 3-0 defeat to Flamengo, interrupted their momentum.
Meanwhile, FC Porto have seen their dominance in Portuguese football wane in recent times. Despite winning the Super Cup in August, they ended the Primeira Liga 2024-25 season third behind Sporting CP and Benfica, marking their first back-to-back seasons outside the top two since the mid-70s.
The Dragons have also seen early exits in both cup competitions, as well as being eliminated from the Europa League in the playoff round. This is Porto바카라™s first appearance in the Club World Cup. They last won the Intercontinental Cup in 2004, but will look to make their mark in the rebranded tournament.
