promotion play-offReal Oviedo will be back in LaLiga next season after a 24-year absence, and Santi Cazorla will get the opportunity to feature in Spain's top flight once more.
Cazorla, 40, scored a penalty late in the first half of Saturday's second leg of Oviedo's promotion play-off against Mirandes.
That levelled the scores on the night, before Ilyas Chaira's second-half goal sent the match to extra time, in which substitute Francisco Portillo came up with the decisive moment for Oviedo.
David Costas was sent off late in extra time, but Oviedo held firm to secure their return to the top table of Spanish football.
And according to Oviedo's owner Jesus Martinez, former Arsenal, Villarreal and Malaga playmaker Cazorla will stay with Oviedo in their first season back in the big time.
"Cazorla is going to play for Real Oviedo next year. He's everyone's boss, I'm going to give him a contract," Martinez said, as quoted by AS.
"He's ready to play for two or three more years!
"We have to dedicate it to the people who came before us and who have done so much for this team.
"This team wasn't built now, but more than a hundred years ago. May all these people, who have always given their all, enjoy it.
The hardest part is staying in the game, and we have many projects in the pipeline, like a sports city. But now let me enjoy it. Thank God, the players, and the coaching staff, who have done an extraordinary job."
Oviedo have now ended their longest absence from LaLiga, while they became the sixth team to win a promotion play-off final after losing the first leg.
