With just five classical games left, both players still need 3 points to win the USD 2.5 million prize, and a tie after 14 games would lead to faster time controls. Liren, who won the first game, and Gukesh, victorious in the third, have since drawn six times. Gukesh tested Liren with a Catalan opening, but despite a brief chance on his 20th move, the position quickly evened out. The game concluded with a rook-and-pawn endgame and bare kings.
