French Open: Gauff Congratulates Boisson On 'incredible Tournament' After Semi-final Win

The American ended the home favourite's fairytale run to the last four at Roland-Garros, taking just 72 minutes to wrap up a dominant 6-1 6-2 rout and book a date with Aryna Sabalenka

Coco Gauff paid tribute to Lois Boisson after reaching the French Open final, saying her beaten opponent has "proven she's one of the best players in the world".

The American ended the home favourite's fairytale run to the last four at Roland-Garros, taking just 72 minutes to wrap up a dominant 6-1 6-2 rout and book a date with Aryna Sabalenka in Saturday's showpiece.

Boisson, who will climb from 361st to 65th in the WTA rankings, has enjoyed a remarkable debut in the clay-court major, defeating three seeds along the way in Jessica Pegula (third), Mirra Andreeva (sixth) and Elise Mertens (24th).

The 22-year-old will also become the new French number one, and Gauff hailed her opponent's exploits this fortnight.

"Lois is obviously an incredible player," the 2023 US Open champion said. "In this tournament, she has definitely proven she's one of the best players in the world, especially on clay.

"I'm sure we will have many battles in the future, hopefully here. Congratulations to her for an incredible tournament. Today just happened to be my day.

"I was mentally prepared before the match. I knew during the match, [the crowd] were going to be 99% for her, but I just tried to block it out."

Saturday's final will pit the WTA's two top-ranked players against each other for the first time at the French Open since Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova in 2013.

It will be Gauff's second showpiece on Court Philippe-Chatrier, having been well beaten to the title by four-time champion Iga Swiatek in 2022.

Nevertheless, the 21-year-old believes that previous experience will be crucial for her three years on.

"It will definitely help me," she said. "I was super nervous going into that final.

"Obviously, I'm playing Aryna, it's going to be a tough match.

"Overall, I'm really proud of myself. There바카라™s a lot more work to do. I'm just going to enjoy this [win] and then, tomorrow, start the preparation for the final."

Meanwhile, Boisson, who spent the most time on the court to reach the last four, conceded she was unable to reach the same level as in her previous matches during the fortnight, as she registered 33 unforced errors to just eight winners.

"[Coco] played really great," she added. "I just felt like I was running everywhere on the court today, so it was really tough. She was really solid, and I couldn't play my game today because she was just too good.

"I haven't really thought of what's to come next. When you win more matches and you get into the top 100, then people take more of an interest in you. It's logical.

"But I don't have any particular pressure with regard to that. I have a great team with me, and I'm going to keep my feet well on the ground, and all will be well."
