Shubman Gill celebrated his elevation to Test captaincy with a century in his debut outing as the Indian skipper in the red ball format. Gill was batting on 127 off 175 balls at the end of the first day of the India vs England 1st Test match in Leeds. Gill's century combined with Yashasvi Jaiswal's ton and Rishabh Pant's unbeaten half-century took India to 359/3 on Day 1 of the Test.

Gill's promotion to captaincy ahead of proven leaders like Jasprit Bumrah and KL Rahul raised eyebrows as critics were not impressed with the 25-year-old's Test record. Gill averaged just 35 in Test cricket coming into the England series. His record outside India was also mediocre and one of the reasons why some did not want him as the Test skipper.

However, in his very first innings as the Indian Test captain, Gill smashed a brilliant ton to silence his critics and earn more fans.

Gill came to the crease at a critical time when India had just lost back to back wickets after an opening partnership of 92 runs. He joined Jaiswal at the crease and the duo added 129 runs for the third wicket. Both Gill and Jaiswal are seen as future stars and on the first day of the Test, they gave a glimpse into the future.

바카라œWe have spoken a lot in the middle and we were just trying to make sure that we play session by session and try as many (runs) as we can get,바카라 said Jaiswal talking about the partnership in the post-day press conference. 바카라œEspecially when there is a loose ball, we try to make sure that we put it in the right places.바카라

Gill also joined the elite list of Indian captains with century in their first innings as skipper. Only Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar and Virat Kohli had achieved this feat before Gill.
