Cannes 2025: Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning Gets 5-Minute Standing Ovation

Ahead of its theatrical release, Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning was screened out of competition at the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Before the screening, Cruise walked the red carpet with his longtime collaborator and director Christopher McQuarrie and his fellow cast members Simon Pegg, Hannah Waddingham, Hayley Atwell, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Angela Bassett, and Greg Tarzan Davis.

The cast was welcomed by a live orchestra playing the iconic Mission: Impossible theme.

Following the premiere of Mission: Impossible 8, at the Grand Theatre Lumiere on Wednesday, the film earned a five-minute standing ovation.

Cruise was moved by the gesture and he expressed his gratitude to Cannes audience during his speech. 바카라�I'm very grateful to be a part of this franchise,바카라� he said.

He was also all praise for McQuarrie who directed four films in the franchise.

The actor called him 바카라�absolutely brilliant. 바카라�Every step of the way, what you've done, how you've expanded it, how you just went beyond our expectations,바카라� he added.

"To be here in Cannes and have these moments바카라�as a kid, I couldn't have dreamed of something like this. I'm very grateful to have been able to entertain you with this franchise for 30 years," he said further.

This year marks Tom Cruise바카라�s third appearance at the Cannes Film Festival. He made his Cannes debut with Ron Howard바카라�s 1992 romance Far and Away and his second appearance was in 2022, for Top Gun: Maverick. op Gun: Maverick, which had received a six-minute standing ovation and Cruise earned an honorary Palme d'Or. 

MI:8 is all set to release theatrically on May 21 in France and May 23 in the U.S. It will hit Indian screens on May 17, in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. It already had its world premiere in Tokyo on May 5, 2025.
