World Environment Day is celebrated each year to raise awareness and initiate action about issues that threaten the global ecosystems.

World Environment Day, first conceptualised in 1972, was established at the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment in Stockholm. Its goal was to 바카라address the challenges of preserving and enhancing the human environment.바카라

The event, led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is celebrated annually on June 5. The day serves as a global platform to raise awareness through campaigns and spur action to protect the environment. Each year, a country is chosen as the host nation to lead the campaign for the World Environment Day.

This year바카라s theme

The theme for 2025 is 바카라Beat Plastic Pollution,바카라 highlighting how plastic plagues the environment and ecosystems globally.

The UNEP has selected the Republic of Korea to serve as the host country this year to aid in the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals. The goals include 바카라those on climate action, sustainable production and consumption, protection of seas and oceans and repairing ecosystems and retaining biodiversity."

The official campaign website of the UNEP states that, "Plastic pollution permeates every corner of the planet바카라even in our bodies in the form of microplastics. World Environment Day 2025 calls for collective action to tackle plastic pollution."

According to the United Nations report, more than 400 million tonnes of plastic is produced every year worldwide, half of which is designed to be used only once. Out of this, less than 10 per cent is recycled. An estimated 11 million tonnes end up in lakes, rivers and seas annually.

In addition, it is estimated that each person on the planet consumes more than 50,000 plastic particles per year, and many more if inhalation is considered.

The UN plans to address this problem with this year바카라s campaign.

History and Significance

The event commenced in 1973 with the theme of 바카라Only One Earth바카라 and since then, it has been hosted by several nations around the world to raise awareness and drive change. Around 150 countries now form part of the celebrations each year.

The day attempts to address imperative climate change issues to stakeholders across the spectrum including governments, communities, organisations and individuals. In addition to addressing these issues, it focuses on spurring action, influencing policy making to prioritise environmental concerns and increasing global collaboration.
