Arunachal Pradesh Sets Up Task Forces In Every District To Deport Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants: Reports

The Arunachal Pradesh government on Thursday launched a statewide crackdown to identify and deport illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, according to officials cited by PTI. The decision was released after a high-level meeting headed by the advisor to home minister Mutchu Mithi and DGP Anand Mohan on Wednesday, which also included senior officers like inspector generals and superintendents of police.

Mithi asserted that the, "A district task force (DTF) will be immediately constituted in every district to carry out detection of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and ensure strict enforcement of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) regime.바카라�

The ILP is a travel document issued by the government of India granting permission to enter a protected area for a limited period of time to both citizens and internationals. 

Ministry of Home Affair바카라�s Directive

The move comes following a directive from the Ministry of Home Affairs last month. According to the notice, all states and Union Territories need to verify the identity and documentation of individuals who are suspected to be illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar. Those found without the required documents will be subject to deportation. 

In order to detain and deport the immigrants, the states were ordered to invoke their statutory powers. A similar directive was issued to the forces guarding the border between India and Bangladesh including the Border Security Force (BSF) and Assam Rifles. 

According to reports published in The Indian Express earlier this week, over 2000 alleged Bangladeshi migrants have been pushed back over the border since Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7. 

The crackdown began after relations between India and Bangladesh turned sour with a regime change in August 2024. The exercise was intensified after the Pahalgam terror attack that occurred on April 22 claiming 26 lives. 

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, it had asked the Bangladesh government to expedite the verification of the nationality of 2369 illegal immigrants for deportation, as of May 22.
