Cong Leader Salman Khurshid Asks 'Is It So Difficult To Be Patriotic?' Amid Op Sindoor Outreach

Amid the ongoing all-party delegations conveying the government's anti-terrorism message abroad after the recent Indo-Pak tensions, senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid, who is a part of one of the delegations,  on Monday posted a cryptic message on X and said it was "distressing that people at home were calculating political allegiances".

Taking it to X, Khurshid questioned, "When on mission against terrorism, to carry India바카라™s message to the world, it바카라™s distressing that people at home are calculating political allegiances. Is it so difficult to be patriotic?"

Although Khurshid's post did not mention who he was targeting, the post found relevance as the Congress recently expressed discontent over the nomination of its leaders for the all-party delegation task.

Explaining his tweet later, Khurshid said there was a need to speak in one voice in favour of the nation irrespective of political differences.

"People keep saying, 'What are you doing in a delegation where there are people from the BJP? What are you doing there?' What are we doing here? No matter which party you are from, today what is needed is a single voice to speak in favour of the nation and that is what we are doing here," he told news agency ANI.

"I think when I say 'Is it so difficult to be a patriot?' - that is the question that has to be asked of those who are putting out tweets and saying things that I think I believe are not very encouraging when you want to do something for the nation," he said.

The senior leader's remarks came days after his party colleague Udit Raj slammed party MP Shashi Tharoor over speaking in favour of the government. Raj criticised Tharoor for his reported remarks at an event in Panama, where Tharoor purportedly claimed that India crossed the Line of Control for the first time during the 2016 surgical strike on a terrorist base.

He sarcastically suggested that Tharoor should be appointed the "super spokesperson of the BJP," accusing him of undermining the Congress party's legacy.

Khurshid's remarks also came days after he praised the removal of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir in Indonesia, where he's a part of an all-party delegation led by JD(U)'s MP Sanjay Kumar Jha.

The delegation is highlighting India's stance against terrorism following Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror attack.
