Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, leading an all-party delegation on the Operation Sindoor global outreach mission, emphasised in Panama City that despite their diverse political backgrounds, the leaders are united by a shared national purpose.
Addressing the Indian community in Panama, Tharoor slammed Pakistan over their continuous attack on Indian territory through terrorism.
He said, "Unfortunately, our desire to just be left alone is not reciprocated by our friends on the other side of the border," as quoted by ANI.
"They have chosen repeatedly to attack us because they believe that the want territory which they do not control, which we control," he added.
Shashi Tharoor told the Panama assembly, addressing President Dana Castaneda and select parliamentarians, that India initiated Operation Sindoor on May 7 after waiting to see if the Pakistani government would take action against those responsible for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
"When nothing was clearly being done, two weeks later, on the 7th of May, we attacked the known headquarters of terrorist bases inside Pakistan. We had no interest in starting a war, but we felt that a terrorist act must not go unpunished," he said.
Shashi Tharoor pointed out that terrorists and Pakistan have consistently targeted India, driven by their desire to claim the territory governed by New Delhi, specifically Kashmir.
The all-party delegation led by Shashi Tharoor includes Sarfaraz Ahmed (JMM), Tejasvi Surya (BJP), Ganapati Harish Madhur Balayogi (TDP), Shashank Mani Tripathi (BJP), Bhubaneswar Kalita (BJP), Milind Deora (Shiv Sena) and former Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Sandhu.
The delegation aims to send a strong message of the country's unity and brotherhood as well as underline the collective resolve to fight against terrorism.
