The ruling National Conference (NC) is facing dissensions within its ranks for being seen to be less vocal on issues like the restoration of Article 370 and rationalisation of reservations in Jammu and Kashmir.
Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi바카라the NC Member of Parliament (MP) representing Srinagar in Lok Sabha, who had in December 2024 protested outside Chief Minister Omar Abdullah바카라s residence against the prevalent reservation scheme that allegedly discriminates against open merit category students in J&K바카라is learnt to have made known his differences to the party at its May 21 Working Committee meeting in Srinagar.
As per a senior NC leader, Ruhullah said in the meeting that 바카라the party needs to be vocal on key issues, including the restoration of Article 370바카라.
According to NC functionaries, the working committee meeting was held in Srinagar, at the party headquarters at Nawa-i-Subh under the chairmanship of former chief minister and party president Farooq Abdullah. It was also attended by several leaders, including chief minister and NC vice-president Omar Abdullah.
A party leader said that Ruhullah, after hearing some leaders speak, left in the middle of the meeting. However, Tanvir Sadiq, the party바카라s Chief Spokesperson and MLA, Zadibal, while ruling out any differences within the party, said: 바카라Ruhullah did not stage any walkout. He left only after informing both Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah that he is leaving due to a personal emergency involving a sick relative.바카라
Following his protests outside CM바카라s residence last year, sharp differences appeared to have emerged between Ruhullah and the chief minister.
The party particularly saw divergent views emerge over the 바카라rationalisation of reservation바카라 which is a key demand from the general category students, who have been protesting that the most of the government jobs are filled through candidates from the reserved category. In its political manifesto ahead of the 2024 Assembly elections, the party vowed to review the reservation policy 바카라to correct any imbalance and injustice바카라.
After Ruhullah left the meeting, the NC later issued details about the resolutions which were passed in the Working Committee meeting that reiterated its commitment to the restoration of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. 바카라One key resolution states that the Working Committee unanimously reiterates its commitment to the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir바카라s special status. The committee asserted
that this demand is central to the aspirations and dignity of the people of J&K,바카라 read one of the resolutions.
The NC Working Committee also urged the Central government to restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir immediately, as 바카라promised on the floor of Parliament and repeatedly echoed in the public domain and also as committed by the constitution bench of the Supreme Court.바카라
The Committee welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire and called upon both India and Pakistan 바카라to uphold peace and explore long-lasting, peaceful solutions to end violence바카라 and also strongly 바카라condemned the Baisaran attack바카라 that claimed the lives of 26 people and denounced the continued 바카라cross-border shelling,바카라 and 바카라expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with the bereaved families.바카라
The resolution further cautioned that arbitrary arrests, harassment of youth, targeted use of bulldozers, and intimidation of legitimate media voices will only alienate the people and the NC. The Working Committee also expressed serious concern over the reports of harassment faced by 바카라students, traders and residents from Jammu and Kashmir in various parts of the country바카라.
Former Minister and NC senior leader Mustafa Kamal said that the party has issued a detailed statement on the resolutions in its Working Committee meeting, while refusing to talk over any dissent within its ranks.
