Russian authorities reported thwarting a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, leading to the suspension of flights at least two Moscow airports.

The attack follows Ukraine's report of enduring the most intense three-day barrage of Russian drone attacks since Moscow's 2022 military offensive.

What Did Russia Say?

In a Telegram post, the defence ministry stated that 112 Ukrainian drones were destroyed and intercepted in six different locations within a three-hour period leading up to midnight.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported on Telegram that 12 drones bound for the Russian capital were intercepted and shot down. Some 59 had targeted the southwestern region of Bryansk, the defence ministry said.

The Russian military frequently reports Ukrainian drone attacks, but incidents of this intensity over such a short span are rare, as per the reports.

While Ukraine reported that Russia unleashed over 900 drones in a three-day span ending Monday, resulting in 13 civilian fatalities on Sunday, including three children.

In response to what it termed Ukraine's "provocation," Russia's defence ministry claimed to have launched drone and missile strikes targeting Ukrainian infrastructure."
