World No Tobacco Day, an awareness event led by the World Health Organisation, has been observed annually on May 31 since 1987. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness pertaining to the harmful effects of tobacco use and to encourage people to quit. It also aims to nudge governments and communities towards creating a tobacco free world.
The theme for 2025
The theme for 2025 is, "Bright products. Dark intentions. Unmasking the Appeal.바카라 It focuses on how the tobacco companies employ fancy packaging and sweet flavours to entice a young audience while illuminating on the aspect of a healthy lifestyle and personal well-being. It delivers this message through slogans and public campaigns.
Why is Anti Tobacco Day celebrated?
World No Tobacco Days is aimed at spreading awareness about how tobacco is one of the leading causes for several life-threatening illnesses in the world. It is linked to diseases like cancer, heart disease, stroke, lung disorders and even infertility.
Each year is celebrated with a different theme to elucidate on a certain aspect of the harms of tobacco consumption. In 2024, the day was marked with the theme 바카라Youth step in and speak out - #TobaccoExposed.바카라
India as a Tobacco consumer
According to a report by the World Health Organisation, approximately 29 percent of all adults in India consume tobacco in some form. A similar report stated that nearly 3600 people in India die every day due to tobacco use.
Among the youth, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram possess the highest tobacco consuming population standing at 25 percent each, as per Global Youth Tobacco Survey 2019.
Himachal Pradesh ranks the lowest with just 1 percent of its young population engaging with tobacco consumption, as per the data.
According to the National Family Health Survey 2019-20, tobacco use among both men and women was the highest in Mizoram standing at 72.9 percent and 61.6 percent respectively.
No single state has the percentage of male tobacco users in single digits.
