Kerala Man Killed In Jordan While Attempting To Cross Border Into Israel

The Embassy is in touch with the family of the deceased and is working closely with Jordanian authorities for transportation of mortal remains of the deceased.

A man from Kerala, who had traveled to Jordan on a tourist visa with three others, was shot dead by security forces while two of them were allegedly attempting to illegally cross the border into Israel, according to a letter sent to his family by the Indian Embassy in Amman.

As per reports, the deceased has been identified as Thomas Gabriel Perera, 47, from Thumba near Thiruvananthapuram. Another individual, Edison, 43, who was with Thomas, sustained gunshot injuries. Edison, also from Thumba, returned to Kerala two days ago.

The incident occurred on February 10, just five days after their arrival in Jordan. Both Thomas and Edison, from the fishermen community, worked as autorickshaw drivers.

The Indian Embassy in Jordan said: "The Embassy has learnt of the sad demise of an Indian national in unfortunate circumstances. The Embassy is in touch with the family of the deceased and is working closely with Jordanian authorities for transportation of mortal remains of the deceased."
