On Sunday night, New Delhi Railway Station witnessed a huge rush of passengers on platforms 12 and 13, leading to chaos as departure of several trains was delayed.
Chaos erupted at New Delhi Railway Station on Sunday night as a massive rush of passengers thronged at platforms sparked by the delayed departure of several major trains, but there was "no stampede" or "stampede-like" situation, railway officials told PTI.
Citing an official PTI report, it stated that no injury was reported. However, there was an extra rush at platform numbers 12 and 13 due to the delayed departure of a few trains.
"Senior officials like Senior Commandant RPF and Station Director NDLS are present at the station for better management," a senior official from the Railway Board said.
"There was a heavy rush but no stampede or stampede-like situation at NDLS," the railway official said, adding that the protocol of taking unreserved passengers through the holding area is being used.
Passengers were seen scaling the barricades and jumping queue on Sunday night.
The Delhi Police have implemented crowd management measures to prevent any untoward incident, they said.
Just last month, a deadly stampede at the New Delhi railway station on February 15 claimed 18 lives and injured 15. The incident occurred when people rushed down the narrow staircase to platform 16 due to a glitch in a train announcement.
Stuck between the trains moving up and down, the passengers created a human barrier, leading to chaos and a devastating stampede in which many pilgrims going to the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj lost their lives.
