IND vs ENG: Shubman Gill made a memorable start to his reign as India바카라™s new Test captain, scoring a century on the opening day of the first India vs England Test match at Headingley, Leeds, on Friday, 20 June. Gill reached his 100 in 140 balls, marking his sixth Test century and becoming the fifth Indian player to secure a ton on their red-ball captaincy debut.

The 25-year-old batter walked in at number four with the scoreline at 92/2, after India lost KL Rahul at 42 and debutant Sai Sudharsan for a duck before lunch. Gill took on the initiative quickly, reaching a quick half-century and then went on to complete a milestone hundred, which featured 14 boundaries.

In the process, Gill became only the fifth Indian player to score a century on their debut match as India바카라™s Test captain. Previously, the feat had been achieved by Virat Kohli against Australia in 2014, as well as Sunil Gavaskar, Vijay Hazare, and Dilip Vengsarkar.

India Vs England, 1st Test: Yashasvi Jaiswal Steals Spotlight With Hundred

The highlight of the first day was captain Gill바카라™s partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal, which amounted to 129 runs from 164 balls. Jaiswal, despite needing repeated treatment for a hand injury, stood strong to complete his own century, scoring 101 runs from 159 deliveries.

This marked the fifth Test hundred for Jaiswal, and his third against the Three Lions. His partnership with Gill built upon the strong 90-run stand with KL Rahul, undermining England captain Ben Stokes바카라™ decision to bowl first after winning the toss on a humid Headingley pitch.

Stokes eventually dismissed Jaiswal at the start of the third session, but India are in a strong position on Day 1, finishing with 359/3 at stumps.
