His latest offering, Sitaare Zameen Par graced the screens on June 20, and Aamir's fans thronged the theatres to watch his magic on screen. However, the film received mixed reviews from critics and audiences. It has taken a decent start at the domestic box office.

As per Sacnilk.com, Sitaare Zameen Par has earned 11.7 crore in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages, on the first day of its release. The film recorded an occupancy of 21.43% in Hindi version. Night shows had the maximum occupancy of 32.50%, while afternoon shows recorded lowest occupancy of 16.25%.
Sitaare Zameen Par has managed to strike a chord with fans. While some hailed Aamir Khan's comeback, some called it best than Aamir's previous movies like 3 Idiots, PK and Taare Zameen Par. Many called it "emotional, powerful & truly special" and some called it "thought-provoking and captivating cinema." A section of netizens are "disappointed" and called it a "disaster".

Amir Khan plays a famous basketball coach, Gulshan Arora, who is rude and aggressive and gets into trouble for driving in a drunk state. After breaking the law, Gulshan is assigned to train Neurodivergent adults for a community service program.

It has been directed by by RS Prasanna, with screenplay by Divy Nidhi Sharma. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy has composed the music, with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya.
