Thug Life Box Office Collection Day 1: Kamal Haasan, Silambarasan starrer earned in double digits on the first day of its release.

Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan in the lead role, finally hit the theatres on June 5, amid the Tamil-Kannada language controversy. However, it was not screened in Karnataka due to the ban. The movie received mixed reviews. It earned in double digits at the box office on Day 1.

Thug Life box office collection in India

As per Sacnilk, Thug Life opened to Rs 17 crore (early estimates) on the day of its release. It failed to surpass the first day collection of Haasan's previous films, Indian 2 and Vikram.

The Mani Ratnam directorial had 52.06% Tamil occupancy on Thursday. The night shows registered maximum occupancy of 62.07%, whereas there was occupancy of 50.66% for the afternoon shows. The footfall dipped slightly for the afternoon and evening shows which were 50.35% and 45.15% respectively. It is expected to do good business in the upcoming days, due to the extended weekend.

Has the ban on Thug Life in Karnataka affected the film?

As predicted by a report in The Hindu, due to Thug Life's ban in Karnataka, it had an additional loss of Rs 35-40 crore.

Why is Thug Life ban in Karnataka?

At a promotional event of his film, Kamal Haasan said, "Kannada was born out of Tamil,바카라 which created a huge uproar. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce threatened to ban the film's release in the state, if the actor didn't apologise, which he refused to do and claimed that his statement was being misconstrued.

Thug Life story

It follows the story of Sakthivel (played by Kamal Haasan) and his brother Manickam (played by Nassar) who rescue a young boy and adopt him. They name him Amaran, (played by Silambarasan TR). The twist in the story comes when someone tries to assassinate Sakthivel, which leads him to suspect Amaran and Manickam.

Sakthivel now wants to take revenge against Amaran and Manickam for betraying him.

Thug Life cast

Apart from Kamal Haasan, Thug Life also stars Silambarasan, Nassar, Trisha Krishnan, Abhirami, Sanya Malhotra, Ali Fazal, Joju George, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Gautham Karthik, and Vaiyapuri in significant roles.
