China announced on Sunday that it will impose anti-dumping duties of up to 74.9% on imports of polyoxymethylene (POM) copolymers from the United States, the European Union, Japan, and Taiwan.

As reported by Reuters, the decision concludes an investigation launched in May 2024, shortly after the U.S. introduced steep tariffs on several Chinese goods, including electric vehicles and semiconductors. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce, according to The Economic Times, stated that its inquiry had uncovered evidence of unfair pricing practices that adversely affected domestic manufacturers, leading to the final imposition of these tariffs.

POM copolymers are durable engineering plastics commonly used in sectors like automotive, electronics, and healthcare as substitutes for heavier metals such as copper and zinc. In January 2025, China had already imposed preliminary duties through a deposit system, following provisional findings of dumping by foreign exporters.

Under the new ruling, U.S. suppliers face the steepest duty at 74.9%. European producers will be subject to a 34.5% tariff, while most Japanese companies face a 35.5% levy바카라”though Asahi Kasei Corp has been granted a lower rate of 24.5%. Taiwanese manufacturers will generally see a 32.6% duty, except for Formosa Plastics and Polyplastics Taiwan, which received significantly reduced rates of 4% and 3.8%, respectively.

Despite a 90-day trade truce recently announced between China and the U.S., this latest move has cast doubt over the longevity of that agreement, as per CNBC World. Both nations had pledged to reduce certain tariffs to alleviate ongoing trade disputes, and China's Global Times had called for the extension of the temporary understanding. Nevertheless, this development reflects Beijing바카라™s continued effort to safeguard its domestic industries from what it sees as unfair international trade practices.

Meanwhile, during a recent Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit held in South Korea, member nations voiced concerns over rising protectionism, stating that the global trade environment faces 바카라œfundamental challenges바카라 due to the increasing prevalence of trade restrictions and a weakening commitment to multilateral cooperation
