The Commission for Air Quality Management  (CAQM) has stated that, since 2018, the national capital Delhi witnessed its best Air Quality Index (AQI) for the month of May this year at 170. The average AQI for the month of May was 217 in 2018, 221 in 2019, 212 in 2022, 171 in 2023 and 223 in 2024 respectively.

The national capital witnesses bad AQI throughout the year, which peaks during the winter season when the stubble smoke from the farms of Punjab and Haryana reach Delhi and gets trapped with the vehicular pollutants and construction dust. Low wind speed during the winter season traps all the pollutants, engulfing Delhi with smog - a toxic mix of smoke and fog.

바카라œAided by favourable meteorological conditions and  efforts by different stakeholders, the month of May 2025 witnesses the best average AQI (Air Quality Index) in Delhi, since 2018, at 170,바카라 the press statement read. The statistics bar the lockdowns and restrictive COVID years of 2020 and 2021.

The average AQI of Delhi for the period January-May has also witnessed a significant improvement over the years, recording an average value of 214 in the current year as against 231 in 2024; 213 in 2023; 238 in 2022; 235 in 2021.

Additionally, the period between January to May in 2025 did not experience a single day with average AQI more than 400. There were 7 such days in 2019, with other years reporting lesser days than that.

This year, the months between January to May also saw the lowest levels of PM2.5 concentration in Delhi compared to the corresponding period since 2018, except for 2020 바카라“ the year of lockdown due to Covid. Last year.  Delhi witnessed PM2.5 running average of 95 ”g/m3 was 111 and 101 in the year before that. The levels of PM10 concentration were lowest this year since 2018.

The CAQM was established for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas for better co-ordination, research, identification and resolution of problems surrounding the AQI.

Authorities in Delhi announce regular measures to battle the AQI that usually remains below or on the category of 'moderate'.

Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa last week made the installation of anti-smog guns mandatory for all high-rise, non-residential buildings in six months to combat pollution levels in the national capital.

The Delhi government also launched a comprehensive campaign to make the bustling Ring Road dust-free. The extensive endeavour includes planting trees along roads and dividers and reducing traffic congestion on nearly 250 roads.
