Jaiswal's fifty, his slowest in Test cricket, kept India competitive after they lost three early wickets while chasing a stiff target of 340 on the final day of the game. At Tea, India were at 112 for three.

The left-hander hit Aussie off-spinner Nathan Lyon through the midwicket region to smash his seventh four of the innings and get to his fifty. This became Jaiswal's second fifty of the game.

Jaiswal looked a bit scratchy at the start of the innings but batted with patience even as wickets fell around him.

His opening partner and India captain Rohit Sharma's woeful run of form continued as he was dismissed for nine by Pat Cummins. The Australian captain then also took the wicket of KL Rahul in the same over. Rahul could not open his account. Virat Kohli then fell to Starc at the stroke of Lunch again trying to chase a delivery way outside the off-stump.

India were 33 for three at Lunch but Rishabh Pant and Jaiswal combined to steady the innings. The do stitched a crucial partnership to help India come out unscathed of the second session. At 112 for three, the target still remained 228 runs away from India with only the last session of the day remaining.

Earlier on the fourth day, Jaiswal had a tough outing in the field as he dropped three catches. While the dropped chance of Usman Khawaja did not hurt India that much, reprieves handed to Pat Cummins and Marnus Labuschagne by Jaiswal helped Australia add some valuable runs to the total.
