Jonatan Giraldez: Former Barcelona Femeni Boss Takes Charge As OL Lyonnes Head Coach

Jonatan Giraldez has been appointed as the new head coach of Lyon.

The 33-year-old signed a three-year contract with the French side, ending in June 2028.

Giraldez was at Barcelona between 2021 and 2024, winning the league title three times and back-to-back Women's Champions League trophies in 2023 and 2024.

During his one season with the Washington Spirit, he won the NWSL Challenge Cup, but Giraldez has now decided to return to Europe.

"I am honoured and excited to join OL Lyonnes," said Giraldez. 

"The club's history, ambition, and talented squad represent a fantastic opportunity, and I look forward to building on the club's successes as it enters a new chapter."

Michele Kang, majority owner of the club, added: "Jonatan's commitment to excellence and performance is unmatched. His leadership, tactical acumen, and dedication to player development will propel our club to the next level, both domestically and internationally."

Giraldez won both the UEFA Women's Coach of the Year and the Best FIFA Women's Coach awards in 2023 and 2024.

He was also the youngest candidate ever nominated for the Best Women's Coach award at the 2024 Ballon d'Or.
