Heavy Rains Trigger Landslides Across Himachal Pradesh; Orange Alert Issued For Multiple Days

Continuous rainfall in Himachal Pradesh has triggered landslides at multiple locations, disrupting traffic and damaging infrastructure, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall over the coming days.

According to the IMD, an orange warning has been issued for isolated parts of the state on June 22, 23, 25, and 26. A yellow alert has also been issued for June 24, warning of heavy rain in scattered areas.

In Dharamshala, a landslide halted traffic on the Dharamshala-Chataro-Gaggal road, with road-clearing operations currently underway. Similarly, a section of the Tauni-Hatkoti road in Upper Shimla suffered damage due to a landslip, affecting local transportation.

Waterlogging was also reported at Shahid Inder Singh Middle School in Pandoh, causing inconvenience for students and school staff.

Nahan recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 84.7 mm, followed by Pandoh (35 mm), Slapper (26.3 mm), Sarahan (20.5 mm), Poanta Sahib (19.8 mm), Jogindernagar (19 mm), Pachhad (17.2 mm), Rampur (15.6 mm), and Gohar (15 mm). Thunderstorms were reported in Sundernagar, Shimla, and Kangra, while gusty winds reaching speeds of 37 km/h were recorded in Bajaura.

The state바카라™s meteorological centre has warned of further landslips and mudslides in vulnerable areas, particularly in the mid and lower hills. Heavy rains could also lead to waterlogging in low-lying regions, damage to weak structures, and increased risk of skidding and low visibility on wet roads.

Meteorologists added that atmospheric conditions remain favourable for the further advancement of the southwest monsoon into more parts of Himachal Pradesh within the next two to three days.

Four Dead In Jharkhand

Heavy rainfall across Jharkhand left four people, including two schoolboys and a 10-year-old girl, dead in three places, besides causing infrastructural damage in several districts, officials said to PTI.

As rain continued to lash various parts of the state, two kutcha houses, a bridge, an abandoned residential building and a portion of an airport wall collapsed in different districts. No casualty was reported in these incidents.
