American actor, director, and producer, Denzel Washington attended the world premiere of his latest film, Highest 2 Lowest, at the Grand Théùtre LumiĂšre of the Cannes Film Festival, on May 19. It was a special night for Denzel, as he received an honorary Palme d바카라Or in recognition of his outstanding career.
The premiere of Highest 2 Lowest marked Denzel's first time as a lead actor at Festival de Cannes, and the first time he has attended the festival since Much Ado About Nothing.
The two-time Oscar winner was feted out the honorary Palme d바카라Or by Highest 2 Lowest director Spike Lee.
Ahead of the screening of Highest 2 Lowest, Thierry Fremaux, Cannes festival director, introduced a montage of some of the best films of Denzil, including Malcolm X and Mo Better Blues바카라both directed by Lee and also some of his Oscar-winning performances in Glory and Training Day. It was followed by Lee presenting Washington with the honorary Palme d바카라Or. The 70-year-old actor received a standing ovation from the Cannes crowd.
Lee called Washington his "brother" while presenting the award. The latter, in his acceptance speech, said, "This is a total surprise for me, so I바카라m emotional. It바카라s a great opportunity to collaborate with my brother once again, brother from another mother, and to be here once again in Cannes".
He added, 바카라We바카라re a very privileged group in this room that we get to make movies and wear tuxedos and nice clothes and dress up and get paid for it as well. We바카라re just blessed beyond measure. I바카라m blessed beyond measure. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all."
For the unversed, Highest 2 Lowest is the fifth collaboration between Lee and Washington.
Apart from Denzel Washington, the film also stars A$AP Rocky, Jeffrey Wright, Ice Spice, Aubrey Joseph, Dean Winters, Ilfenesh Hadera, Michael Potts, John Douglas Thompson, LaChanze, and Wendell Pierce.
It will hit theatres on August 22 and stream on Apple TV+ from September 5.
