Actress and producer Nicole Kidman, who has been coming to Cannes for 32 years, was honoured with the Women in Motion award presented by Kering, at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, on May 18.
In 2017, Kidman vowed to work with a female director every 18 months, and she exceeded that pledge, having collaborated with 27 female directors in eight years. The award was feted out to her for the promise she kept to support female filmmakers.
As per Variety, at the event, Nicole Kidman, 57, said, "I had to say, 'This is how I'm doing it. We'll take the risk. We're going to mentor, support, help and protect.' The only way to do it is to actually do the world, show up and go: 'I'm here. I'll be in your film'."
"I was going to make it possible. I was at a point where we had a discussion where there was such a disparity in terms of the choice. You'd go, 'Could a woman direct this?'" she added.
Apart from advocating female directors, the actress also spoke about resisting ageism.
"You get to a certain age, and maybe you have made a great film in your 20s that got lauded and then suddenly you바카라re in your 40s, and you haven바카라t followed it up or made choices that didn바카라t succeed. But you바카라re like, 바카라I바카라m not over! Please still keep believing in me and investing in me바카라," said the Oscar-winning actress.
Kidman further said, "That is important too, resisting ageism. There바카라s the emerging talents and then the ones that are still going who have a wealth of knowledge and experience and have somehow been cast out or are not the cool person. It바카라s about going, 바카라No, you actually can have a second or third chapter.'"

Brazilian director Marianna Brennand received the Women In Motion Emerging Talent award at Festival du Cannes. Both posed for photographers after receiving the awards at the 78th international film festival.

On the professional front, Nicole Kidman was last seen in Holland. She will be next seen in Nine Perfect Strangers Season 2.
