On Saturday, May 31, the Union government notified age-based categories certification of films to encourage age-appropriate viewing, for the parental guidance group, reported PTI
In a gazette notification, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting amended the rules notified in December 1991, which lays down principles for sanctioning films for public exhibition.
The amended rules allow the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to issue certification to films for unrestricted public exhibition with an endorsement in accordance with the nature and type of content marked as 'U/A7+', 'U/A 12+' and 'U/A 16+'.
The gazette notification stated, "Content suitable for a child aged seven years and above and under the age of seven years with parental guidance shall be classified as 바카라˜U/A 7+바카라™ rating; (ii) content suitable for a child aged thirteen years and above and under the age of thirteen years with parental guidance shall be classified as 바카라˜U/A 13+바카라™ rating; and (iii) content suitable for a child aged sixteen years and above and under the age of sixteen years with parental guidance shall be classified as 바카라˜U/A 16+바카라™ rating."
Last year, the CBFC had introduced a revised certification framework aligning with prevailing social values, aiming to enhance age-appropriate content categorisation.
This three tier sub-categorisation under the U/A replaces the earlier singular U/A classification applicable to children under 12 years.
For the unversed, in India, earlier, the film certification included only two categories바카라”바카라˜U바카라™ for unrestricted public exhibition and 바카라˜A바카라™ for adults only. In 1983, a new category바카라” 바카라˜U/A바카라™ was introduced to allow unrestricted public viewing with parental guidance for children under 12. Also, an 바카라˜S바카라™ category, is there which is for specialised audiences such as doctors or scientists.
Films certification is governed by the Cinematograph Act, 1952. The government notified the Cinematograph (Amendment) Act, 2023 in 2023, followed by Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 2024 in 2024. The 2024 Cinematograph Rules replaced the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 1983.
