Renowned filmmaker Ang Lee, best known for his projects like Life of Pi, Crouching Tiger, Brokeback Mountain, and Hidden Dragon, is all set to direct Old Gold Mountain, as per a report in Deadline.
The script for the film, which is about two orphaned immigrants, will be written by Hansol Jung, known for her work on Pachinko.
The film is an adaptation of C Pam Zhang's 2020 debut novel, How Much of These Hills Is Gold.
The story of the novel follows, "Lucy and Sam, newly orphaned children of immigrants who suddenly are alone in a land that refutes their existence. Fleeing the threats of their western mining town, they set off to bury their father in the only way that will set them free from their past. Along the way, they encounter giant buffalo bones, tiger paw prints, the spectre of a ravaged landscape, as well as family secrets, sibling rivalry and glimpses of a different kind of future."
Meanwhile, the Academy award-winning director is currently developing a biopic on legendary martial artist and actor Bruce Lee. It will have Ang Lee's son Mason Lee, who will play the icon.
Ang Lee won the Academy Award for Best Director twice. His first Oscar was for Brokeback Mountain in 2006, followed by the second one for Life of Pi in 2013. He also bagged the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film for Crouching Tiger, and Hidden Dragon in 2001. The filmmaker was honoured with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 77th Annual Directors Guild of America (DGA) Awards, held this year.
