Bangladesh바카라s International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) pressed charges against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and will formally hear charges against her on Sunday.
ICT chief prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam said that the tibunal would also be listening to charges against former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who are both in jail to stand trial.
The state-run BTV is permitted to broadcast the proceedings live , a first-of-its-kind occurrence in the nation바카라s history, PTI reported.
Hasina- who fled to India after her Awami League regime's toppling following unprecedented anti-government protests in August last year - could face the death penalty on the charges pressed against her.
ICT-Bangladesh prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim said that the tribunal바카라s proceedings would begin at 9:30 AM local time. 바카라The entire nation will witness the submission of the first formal charges to the tribunal against influential figures of the ousted Awami League government, including Sheikh Hasina,바카라 Gazi said.
The investigation was ordered by three-judge ICT-BD on February 18, and directed that the investigation be concluded by April.
바카라The prosecution will submit formal charges against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina at the ICT-BD tomorrow in a case filed over crimes against humanity committed during the July-August 2024 mass uprising,바카라 the state-run BSS said, as per PTI.
A previous arrest warrant was issued for Hasina by the ICT-BD while the interim government - led by Muhammad Yunus - sought her repatriation from India through diplomatic channels. While New Delhi acknowledged the receipt of the letter, it refrained from commenting on it. The ICT issued the first arrest warrant against the ex-premier on October 17 on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity committed during the July-August protests and uprising.
Other political leaders of the Awami League government were arrested to face charges like mass murders.
The Daily Star reported that as of now, Hasina is facing two additional cases brought before the ICT, one alleging enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings under the Awami League government. The second relates to the crackdown during the Hefazat-e-Islam rally at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel in 2013.
Islam stated that as per the report - Hasina directed state security agencies, her political party and affiliated groups to carry out operations that resulted in mass casualties, widespread injuries and acts of violence targeting civilians, including women and children.
He also said that the report documented over 1,500 deaths and at least 25,000 injuries. Other instances of torture and denial of medical care have also surfaced in the report.
The Bangladeshi Awami League chief evaded the country on August 5 last year and sought refuge in India. Hundreds of people were killed in Bangladesh in incidents of violence that erupted across the country following the fall of the Hasina government.
As per a UN rights office report, at least 1,400 people were killed between July 15 and August 15, 2024.
