An Indian scholar from Georgetown University was released from immigration detention on Wednesday. He was arrested in the Trump administration바카라s deportation attempts on foreign college students.

The postdoctoral scholar and professor at Georgetown University - Badar Khan Suri - said to the media that he was glad to be released. He was at the federal detention facility in Alvarado near Dallas.

Suri will go home to Virginia where he will wait for the outcome of the petition he filed against the Trump administration for wrongful arrest and detention in violation of the First Amendment, AP reported. He is separately fighting deportation proceedings in an immigration court in Texas.

U.S. District Judge Patricia Tolliver Giles in Alexandria ruled for the release of Suri since he had suitable constitutional claims against the Trump administration바카라s actions. 바카라Speech regarding the conflict there and opposing Israel바카라s military campaign is likely protected political speech,바카라 Giles said. 바카라And thus he was likely engaging in protected speech,바카라 as per AP.

바카라The First Amendment does not distinguish between citizens and noncitizens.바카라

The Trump administration - since the beginning of his second term in January - has cracked down on college students and colleges for protests over the Israel-Hamas conflict. Khan Suri is the latest to win release from custody, along with Rumeysa Ozturk, a Tufts University student from Turkey, and Mohsen Mahdawi, a Palestinian student at Columbia University, according to AP.

When was Suri arrested?

Suri was arrested by plain-clothed officers on March 13 outside his apartment in Virginia, after which he was taken to a detention centre in Texas.

The Trump administration claims that his visa has been revoked over social media posts made by Suri and his wife바카라s connection to Gaza as a Palestinian American. The government claims Suri supports Hamas, which the government has labelled as a terrorist organisation, AP reported.

According to the U.S. government, Suri had family ties with Hamas, and mentioned the organisation as 바카라euphemistically refers to as 바카라the government of Gaza.바카라바카라

In the judgement, Giles mentioned the Trump administration바카라s need for national security integrality but said that 바카라whatever deference may be appropriate, concerns of national security바카라 do not supersede the judiciary.

The Justice Department attorney told the Judge that Suri's First Amendment case is inextricably intertwined with the deportation case in Texas, so he should stay there, according to AP.

Who is  Badar Khan Suri?

Suri is  an Indian citizen who emigrated to the United States in 2022 through a J-1 visa. He worked at Georgetown University as a visiting scholar and postdoctoral fellow. He and his wife have three children, a 9-year-old son and 5-year-old twins.
