After weeks of sending Harvard University an advisory of alterations in its curriculum, hiring and admission process, which the university declined to accept, the Trump Administration on May 22 revoked the Ivy-league university바카라s right to enroll international students.
바카라It is a privilege, not a right, for universities to enroll foreign students and benefit from their higher tuition payments to help pad their multibillion-dollar endowment,바카라 the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, posted on X. Harvard had plenty of opportunity to do the right thing. It refused, she mentioned.
Harvard was not alone in receiving a list of requests from the government, however it was alone in assuming a stricter stance against the demands. Other American Ivy-league universities too received such advisories, some of which were compiled to, lest funding would be cut.
In a previous array of actions against Harvard, the federal funding worth $2.2 billion had been slashed, with additional $9 billion at stake.
List Of Targeted University:
Columbia University
Columbia University too is attempting to recover $400 million canceled in federal grants and contracts after consenting to the demands from the Trump administration. The university has new changes in its Middle Eastern studies department, stricter rules to protest within the campus, and increased campus security.
Brown University
Alleging anti-semitism within the Brown University premises, the university now risks losing $510 million.
Cornell University
Cornell too could lose out on $1 billion in federal support, on similar grounds of supporting antisemitism on campus, the university바카라s response to which has not been made public.
Northwestern University
Northwestern University, which complied to the Trump administration바카라s demands on allowing protests on campus which they alleged were antisemitic, still could lose up to $790 million.
University of Pennsylvania
The University of Pennsylvania is facing changes on grounds of gender, since the university allowed participation of transgender athletes in sports in 2022. Funding worth $175 million could now be slashed. The affected departments include hospital infection prevention, virus drug screening, quantum computing, chemical warfare protections and student loan programs.
Princeton University
Princeton University has faced multiple suspension of grants, in addition to which the university could lose up to $210 million in federal funds. The allegations remain the same, the presence of antisemitic ideologies in the country.
Princeton University바카라s President Christopher Eisgruber said that they had not received a set list of demands from the Trump administration but will 바카라defend academic freedom바카라 and the 바카라due process rights of this university.바카라 He had added, 바카라We are committed to fighting antisemitism and all forms of discrimination, and we will cooperate with the government in combating antisemitism,바카라 the Guardian quoted Eisgruber.
876 faculty members from Yale University - also an Ivy League University - released a letter saying that, 바카라American universities are facing extraordinary attacks that threaten the bedrock principles of a democratic society, including rights of free expression, association, and academic freedom. We write as one faculty, to ask you to stand with us now.바카라
Harvard - the oldest and richest university in the United States - sued the Trump administration last month over its demands, also calling upon its alums and donors to make up for the lost money in donation.
The latest letter sent by the Homeland Security to the university, the department alleged that the university is perpetuating an unsafe campus environment which is hostile to Jewish students, promotes pro-Hamas sympathies, and employs racist 바카라diversity, equity, and inclusion바카라 policies. These are the grounds of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program being revoked, the letter mentioned.
The letter also said that Harvard can regain the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) certification if within 72 hours it submits disciplinary records, protest-related footage and documents detailing any unlawful activity by students over the past five years. International students must enroll in a SEVP- certified university or risk losing their legal status in the US.
Speaking on Fox News, Noem also said, 바카라This should be a warning to every other university to get your act together because we are coming to make sure that these programs ... are facilitating an environment where students can learn, where they바카라re safe and that they바카라re not discriminated against based on their race or their religion.바카라
Harvard President Alan Garber last month asserted that "the University will not surrender its independence or relinquish its constitutional rights," in a letter to the Harvard community, saying that these demands violate the First Amendment rights of the students.
