In a press conference on April 1, US President Donald Trump stated that he has heard India plans to significantly reduce tariffs on American goods.
"I think I heard that India just a little while ago is going to be dropping its tariffs very substantially and I said why didn't somebody do this a long time ago," he said.
The comments come just ahead of Washington's announcement of reciprocal tariffs on April 2, keeping policymakers worldwide on edge.
The White House also included India on a list of countries deemed "unfair" and harmful to US exporters due to high tariffs.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that India imposes a 100 percent tariff on American agricultural goods, making it "virtually impossible" for US products to enter certain foreign markets.
바카라These countries have been ripping off our nation for far too long,바카라 Leavitt was quoted as saying by news agency PTI, adding that they have shown clear disregard for American workers.
바카라You have 100% tariff from India on American agricultural products,바카라 Leavitt said.
"It바카라s time for reciprocity," Leavitt said and added that the US President "is going to make historic changes, and that will happen on Wednesday."
Trump바카라s spokesperson also pointed to examples of tariff rates from the European Union, Japan and Canada, signaling those entities are likely among the targets of the president바카라s new levies. 바카라This makes it virtually impossible for American products to be imported into these markets,바카라 she said.
Trump's 바카라Liberation Day바카라
Trump is set to unveil a new tariff plan on April 2, which he has called "Liberation Day," during his first Rose Garden press conference of his second term.
Leavitt confirmed on Monday that the full cabinet will attend the event, but the details of the plan remain unclear, as Trump and his administration have presented multiple, and at times conflicting, proposals in recent weeks.
"Wednesday, it will be Liberation Day in America, as President Trump has so proudly dubbed it," Leavitt said. "The President will be announcing a tariff plan that will roll back the unfair trade practices that have been ripping off our country for decades. He's doing this in the best interest of the American worker."
