United States President Donald Trump announced on Friday that his administration would levy a 25 percent tariff on Apple if they are not produced within the USA. Apple shares tumbled by around 2.5 percent after Trump issued the warning.
Trump released the statement on his Truth Social platform asserting that, "I have long ago informed Tim Cook of Apple that I expect their iPhones that will be sold in the United States of America will be manufactured and built in the United States, not India, or anyplace else. If that is not the case, a Tariff of at least 25% must be paid by Apple to the US."
Apple has not yet responded to the warning, as reported by Reuters.
The warnings came after Apple supplier Foxconn announced plans to go ahead with the $1.5 billion display module plant in India despite US President Donald Trump's request to refrain from producing in the nation.
Trump had earlier revealed at a business event in Qatar that he spoke to Apple CEO Tim Cook stating, "I had a little problem with Tim Cook yesterday. I said to him that I do not want you building in India.바카라
Along with the investment of $1.5 billion in Tamil Nadu, Foxconn will also be building dormitories for 30,000 workers in the area. The company currently manufactures 15 percent of the Iphones in India with plans to boost this number in the coming times.
